Ubuntu Tweak is an app that allows us to configure a Ubuntu system and desktop in an easy and fast way.
It has the following characteristics:
1. It facilitates the installation of new applications, from a large list that is frequently updated in which applications can be sorted into categories.
2. The ability to “clean the system” as unused and remove remaining packages, as well as kernels, PPAs, or caches.
3. The possibility of editing source.list for adding/deleting repositories.
4. Updating the system.
5. Configure settings related to login by customizing it.
6. Configure settings related to compiz, desktop icons, and other custom-related settings.
7. Configure settings related to Gnome
8. Configure settings related to Power Management, Nautilus, Security.
The installation of Ubuntu Tweak is done by entering the following commands in the terminal:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa: tualatrix / ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-tweak
Ailurus is a software tool that allows us to backup a large list of installed software on a machine configured with Fedora or Ubuntu.
You can do the following actions using Ailurus:
1. Receive detailed information about your system and hardware configuration.
2. Configure settings related to archiving
3. Configure settings related to Firefox configuration
4. Configure Desktop settings, icons, and stuff display.
5. Increase/decrease the font on the whole system.
6. Configure minimum settings related to the Gedit text editor.
7. Configure minimum settings related to Gnome.
8. Configure swap setting.
9. Configure settings for menus on the two panels, power management, shortcut keys, restrictions, deactivation of the login sound.
10. Installing applications grouped by category.
11. Edit source.list, add/delete repository.
12. Automatic Search for the repository with the best connection.
13. Cleaning the system by deleting packages, configuring deleted software and unused kernels and remaining, clearing APT cache and recent documents.
14. Little recommendations that AI suggests and the possibility to apply them directly.
The installation is done by entering the following commands in the terminal:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa: ailurus
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ailurus
Their impact on performance is not extraordinary, with a few exceptions, but being user-friendly and easy to use, I recommend them to any passionate user who has lost the equivalent in the windows mentioned above.
I do not know, and I do not think it’s recommended to install both of them on the same system as conflicts may occur, such as a setting made in UT and its equivalent AI is reversed and then surprises can occur.
Far from having the role of windows, the two applications will be useful in your list of programs, and they will definitely become applications that will provide a real help over the years.
