Krita is free software and a raster open-source graphics editor, designed primarily for digital painting and animation. It features a minimalist UI, high-quality OpenGL acceleration canvas, color management support, advanced brush engine, non-destructive layers and masks, group-based layer management, vector art support, and customizable profiles switched.
It runs on Linux, Microsoft Windows, and MacOS.
The name “Krita” has references to several cultures. In Swedish, Krita means pencil, and Rita means to draw, making Krita a powerful graphics editor for working with digital painting. The software has a large set of tools and various filters to create or edit images. Krita lets you work with raster and vector graphics, mirror and canvas, different overlay modes, individual objects, and more. The software supports the most popular image formats and color patterns. Krita also offers many additional tools to configure the software for a user’s personal needs.
Main Features:
1. A wide range of painting tools
2. Many filters and effects for image processing
3. A large number of settings
4. Support image formats and color patterns
Krita is not designed to be a replacement for Photoshop. So, other programs may have more features than Krita for image manipulation tasks such as snapping photos, while Krita tools are most relevant to digital painting, art concept, illustration and texturing.
To install Krita you must enter the terminal window, login as root, then input the root password and issue the following commands:
sisyphus update
sisyphus install krita
Alternatively, you can use the Sisyphus GUIĀ after startup in order to show the main application screen.
Krita, a raster/vector graphics editor, was updated to version 4.1. The new version includes new significant features, such as a new reference image tool, save option and load sessions, multi-monitor layouts for workspaces, and more. The application is developed using Qt 5 and KDE 5, running on Linux, Windows, and MacOS.
One of the most critical changes in Krita 4.1.0 is the reference image tool, which is again now stronger than ever.
Using this, you can add more images at a time, and perform actions on multiple images such as moving images around or outside the canvas, scale, rotate, or change opacity and saturation.
There are many other improvements in Krita 4.1.0:
1. Many animation frame management options: moving frames, adding frames, copying frames, and setting play time.
2. The application can now handle larger animations better by downloading data to disk instead of keeping all frames in memory.
3. Improve animation chronology.
4. A Color Choice Improvement, meaning you can now choose a small amount of color to mix with the existing color.
5. Python 2 support needed for VFX studios that depend on a Python 2 pipeline Linux AppImage and Windows binaries uses Python3.
6. More RAW formats are supported: bay, bmq, CR2, CS1, DC2, dcr, DNG, ERF, fff, hdr, MDC, months, MRW, nef, ORF, , x3f, 3fr, who, among others, KC2, mef, NRW, qtk, STI, RWL, SRW.
7. A better user experience using the new compressed tester.
