LibreOffice is a free, platform-independent office suite that is compatible with the files from other major office suites.
The purpose of the project is to create a provider-independent office suite that has ODF default file format and is free from any copyright responsibility. On behalf of the project, the words Libre (“free”) and Office refer to a suite of free office programs.
As a free program, users can download it for free, modify it, use it independently from the environment, and freely distribute LibreOffice without restrictions. LibreOffice is available in over a hundred languages.
With LibreOffice, you can create text documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and drawings. This software is available for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux operating systems. Documents created can be saved in the Open Document Format (ODF) format, but there is also support for Microsoft Office formats, RTF (Rich Text Format) and DocBook formats. These features make the LibreOffice suite easy to use both at home and at work. One of the most useful features is that LibreOffice can save PDF documents directly, which gives you better control over the final document. An ODF or Microsoft Office document is easy to modify by a third party, unlike a PDF document.
At the start of the LibreOffice suite, if we do not have any documents open, the startup screen will open where the programs from the installed LibreOffice package can be launched. The “Document Text” icon will start the Writer application, which is a text processor. With its help, we can create various documents, from a simple letter to a whole novel. Templates can be created for different types of documents: compositions, technical documents, presentations, documentation, etc. The “Spreadsheet” icon launches Calc, a program that is related to Microsoft Excel. With its help, we can create tables with automated calculations that use functions. We can create graphs and charts to display the data. Docs created in Calc can be imported to the rest of LibreOffice applications. We can create multiple tables within a document to better organize the data.
With the “Overview” icon, we can start the Impress program, which is similar to Microsoft PowerPoint. It’s a complete presentation program that provides all the features we can expect from such software. It supports transitions, insertion of objects, movies, sounds, text effects, graphics. Includes a presentation module that can be controlled even on your mobile phone. The “Draw” icon launches the Draw application, with which we can create vector graphics that we can use for design effects or that we can insert in other documents. For example, organigrams or logos can easily be created. The “Database” icon starts the Base application. This is an application where we can create a database using a database engine installed in the system. With her help, we can provide a data source for the rest of LibreOffice programs or we can create our own data processing applications.
Using the “Formula” icon can launch the mathematical module. Have you ever encountered situations where you have to insert complex mathematical formulas into a document? In such situations, the solution is the Formula program. With this we can create nicely formatted mathematical formulas, it is an ideal program for scientific or technical documentation or if we have to insert formulas or algorithms into a text. If you use LibreOffice and want to secure the information, it uses AES encryption. LibreOffice allows its users to effortlessly protect their documents so they can ensure that unauthorized users will not be able to open important documents. In this article, I will show you how to secure your documents with LibreOffice. LibreOffice offers a superlative encryption feature for password protection and document protection.
You can encrypt a new document as well as an existing document in LibreOffice. To encrypt and secure documents in LibreOffice, follow these steps:
1. Click on File and choose Save As.
2. In the Save As window, choose the location of the file and give it a name, then select the Save with password

4. You can insert additional security into the document by including an additional password that allows editing only to authorized users. To do this, click on Options where you tick the Open file read-only box and enter the password then click OK. When you want to open a protected document, you must enter the password. The document was also protected during editing. To edit the document, right-click and choose Edit and enter the password in the window that appears.
